Joey Aguilar didn’t make the best decision on the final play of the first half. The Vols QB, facing 2nd and Goal from the 1-yard line and under 10 seconds remaining in the first half, threw a terrible interception that Alabama returned to the house for 6.

It’s fair to say he wasn’t put in the best position either, though. Perhaps Tennessee’s offensive coaching staff realized this about halfway through Zabien Brown’s trek to the end zone. The ABC cameras picked up a still of Tennessee’s coaching staff reacting to the unfortunate play for the Volunteers.

Alabama knew it was going to be a passing play, which is why Brown was able to make such an easy read and jump to make that interception. Saturday has easily been Aguilar’s worst game as a Volunteer — he’s so far thrown for 149 yards with 1 touchdown and the above interception through 3 quarters of football.

The Vols answered well out of the halftime break, but it quickly fell apart once again. Tennessee reuses to get out of its own way Saturday in Tuscaloosa, and Alabama is taking advantage. The Crimson Tide offense has moved through the Vols defense like a hot knife through butter, and time is quickly running out for the Vols.

No game is truly decided with one play, but it feels like Brown’s pick-6 completely killed Tennessee’s chances of escaping from Tuscaloosa with a win.
