Tennessee reveals star DB Jermod McCoy’s status for Alabama game
Tennessee sure could use star cornerback Jermod McCoy on Saturday night to cover all those Alabama wide receivers who’ll be running all over the field.
Unfortunately, it looks like 11th-ranked Tennessee will have to win in Tuscaloosa without its 2024 All-American corner, who has yet to play a down this season after suffering a torn ACL during offseason training back in January.
The return of the 6-foot, 193-pound Texas native would mean everything to Josh Heupel‘s defense, particularly for the Week 8 primetime showdown that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. But on Wednesday night’s initial SEC availability report, McCoy was yet again listed as out for the huge matchup with the Crimson Tide.

Not only is McCoy on track to miss another game in what is quickly becoming a lost junior season, there’s also no timetable for his return to action.
McCoy had 44 total tackles, 26 of them solo, for the Vols last season, and he had 4 interceptions in 2024 to go with the 2 picks he made during the 2023 season while playing at Oregon State. Making matters worse for this Saturday was the knowledge that McCoy played such a big role in helping Tennessee knock off Alabama last season in Knoxville.
Now, it appears he won’t be on the field in 2025 to help the Volunteers turn the trick again on the road.
