The 17th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers will be in icy-whites Saturday when they take on the Kentucky Wildcats (7:45 pm, SEC Network) in Lexington.
The traditional road white uniform is accented with the familiar Tennessee orange and include white cleats and accessories, but black gloves for a decidedly Star Wars Stormtrooper vibe.
Tennessee is looking to rebound from a 37-20 loss at Alabama last week in the annual Third Saturday in October rivalry. Kentucky has dropped 3 straight decisions, including a 16-13 overtime home loss last week to Texas.
Tennessee and Kentucky have met 120 previous times on the football field, with the Volunteers leading the series 84-26-9. Tennessee has won the past 4 straight, including taking a 28-18 victory last season in Knoxville. The last time the Wildcats downed Tennessee in Lexington was in 2017, a 29-26 victory.
Tennessee hasn’t always held orange and white as its primary colors, as athletic teams wore red and black and cadets blue and white in the late 1880s. It was UT athletic association president Charles Moore who chose orange and white after the colors of the American daisy which grew profusely on campus – even though Moore allegedly was color-blind and was told the middle of the daisy is orange instead of an orange-yellow combination.
