Tennessee’s DeSean Bishop makes program history by clearing 1,000-yard threshold

Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop has been the catalyst for a Volunteers offense that differs from its usual Josh Heupel-era identity. The Volunteers aren’t as dynamic at the quarterback position, and have relied on Bishop more than maybe any running back since Heupel became the coach in Knoxville.

That was once again the case in Week 10, when Bishop ran the ball 25 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the 34-6 win over No. 6 Kentucky.

In the game, he went over 1,000 yards for a second season, and joined only Johnnie Jones as the only Tennessee running backs with multiple 1,000 yard seasons.

He was a part of Tennessee’s 2024 class, and showed his potential his freshman year when he rushed for 455 yards and three touchdowns.

However, last year he became one of the country’s most productive running backs, finishing with 1,076 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is nearly at those numbers this season with multiple games still to come.

The Volunteers still have three regular season games remaining, as well as a potential SEC Championship game and an appearance in the College Football Playoff. If Tennessee is going to get where it ultimately wants, then Bishop could be in store for a truly historic season in Knoxville.

Bishop and the Volunteers will continue their season next weekend when they go to College Station to take on Texas A&M.
