Texas football beat the likes of California, LSU and Vanderbilt for Class of 2027 defensive lineman Jason Johnson Monday evening.

Johnson stands at 6-foot-4, 290 pounds and hails from Humble Atascocita HS in Humble, Texas, located just north of Houston. He committed to the Longhorns following an unofficial visit to Austin on June 19, following visits to Florida, LSU and Mississippi State.

Johnson is the 21st addition of the 2027 cycle for Texas, a member of the 5th-ranked class in the nation according to 247Sports’ team rankings. He’s the 6th addition along the defensive line, joining 4-star DL Kasi Currie, 4-star edge Cameron Hall, 4-star edge Jabarrius Garror, 4-star edge Derwin Fields, and 3-star DL Tyler Alexander. Johnson is so far the 11th addition for the Longhorns out of the Lone Star State.

According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Johnson is considered to be the No. 449 overall prospect in the country, as well as the No. 52 defensive lineman and No. 56 prospect out of the talent-rich state of Texas.

Texas is looking to build off a third-straight 10-win season under head coach Steve Sarkisian with Arch Manning set to line up under center once again. The Longhorns start their season on Saturday, September 5 against Texas State.
