The Texas Longhorns just secured a massive win in the 2027 cycle with the commitment of 5-star cornerback John Meredith III. The standout 6-foot-2 CB out of Fort Worth, Texas is the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle and the nation’s unanimous No. 1 ranked cornerback.
As you can imagine, the North Crowley HS prospect could have chosen any program in the country. His offer listed included titans such as Ohio State, Oregon and Georgia, but he specifically chose the Longhorns over late contenders Texas A&M and Alabama.
247Sports’ Director of Scouting Andrew Ivens’ writeup of Meredith is pretty telling. He’s described as an advanced cover corner with elite recovery speed and impressive footwork.
Meredith is the second 5-star addition for the Longhorns this cycle, joining 5-star WR commit Easton Royal. Meredith committed during an official visit to Austin on Friday, joining several other Texas prospects such as Landen Williams-Callis and WR Monshun Sales. In other words, Meredith might not be the only new commitment on board by the time Friday comes to a close.
Meredith is one of 2 cornerback commitments for Texas this cycle, joining 4-star prospect Karnell James out of Manvel, Texas.
