Texas A&M introduced its new mascot to fans on Tuesday, with Reveille IX set to assume her duties as the school’s mascot on May 9.

Here’s what the school had to say about the newest addition to the Aggies family, a female collie formerly named Twix:

The soon-to-be Rev IX has been donated by Overland Collies, a highly respected kennel in the collie-breeding world, headquartered in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb. The establishmentโ€™s owners, Marcy and Mike Fine, are well-known in the collie community and are typically well-represented among finalists at the annual Collie Nationals.

Selection of the 16-month-old medium-sized collie was recommended by a 12-member committee of students, faculty and staff to Interim President Mark A. Hussey, who concurred. Husseyโ€™s decision concluded a seven-month national search in which more than 15 applications from across the nation, including collie breeders and collie rescue shelters, were considered.

The school also released a short preview video to introduce Reveille IX.

Reveille VIII will enter her planned retirement whenย Rev IX takes over. While Rev VIII’s retirment was announced in September, it’s safe to sayย her near run-in with an SMU playerย just a few days after the retirement announcementย provided enough excitement for her to call it a career.

The Aggies have had a dogย as their mascot since the 1930s, when a mixed breed stray was rescued by a cadet. The dog is traditionally cared for byย Company E-2 in the Corps of Cadets on campus and referred to as “the First Lady of Aggieland.”
