Texas A&M suffered a significant loss on the recruiting trail on Monday afternoon.
The Aggies lost a commitment from 2027 wide receiver George Lamons Jr., who had been pledged to the Aggies since April. One of the top pass-catchers in the country for the class of 2027, Lamons will now re-open his recruitment with more than a year to go before he’s eligible to officially sign with a program.
Hayes Fawcett of Rivals first shared the news of Lamons’ decision:

It’s unclear what may have led to this decision from Lamons. However, he will presumably have no shortage of options as he considers his future. Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Miami and Tennessee are among the programs who have offered him a scholarship over the last year.
It’s certainly a significant loss for the Aggies on the trail. He’s currently regarded as the No. 77 overall player and the No. 4 tight end in the country for his class, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Although he’s listed as a tight end, Lamons is mostly being recruited as a wide receiver at this stage of his prep career.
Lamons attends Brooks County High School in Quitman, Georgia. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds.
With Lamson deciding to back away from Texas A&M, the Aggies are once again without any commitments in the class of 2027. However, it’s still fairly early in that cycle so there’s still plenty of time for the Aggies to recruit top talent to College Station.
