Texas becomes latest team to suffer rare fate after reaching No. 1

Texas entered Week 6 as the No. 1 team in the country and was a heavy favorite against Oklahoma in the big Red River Rivalry game. However, things have gone south quickly for the Longhorns, as they have now lost two games in a row after losing at home to Florida, 27-24.
The loss to the Gators was not only a second consecutive loss, but a second straight loss to an unranked team. With that feat, the Longhorns became the first team since Michigan State in 1961 to get to the No. 1 spot, and then lose two consecutive games to unranked teams.
Things were rolling in Austin, but Steve Sarkisian and his team are going to have to get things turned around fast. With the win against Ohio State, the Longhorns still are in control of their own destiny when it comes to making the College Football Playoff, but they don’t have a margin of error anymore.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier in Week 8, as Texas will be back at home next Saturday against Ole Miss. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, and it has become a must-win for the Longhorns.
