Former Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley is in critical but stable condition after suffering severe burns in an accident on his ranch in Texas.

Shipley’s family released a statement Tuesday night, via the Texas athletic department, that Shipley was care-flighted to a hospital in Austin after a machine he was operating on his ranch caught fire.

“Although he managed to get out, it was not before sustaining severe burns on his body in the process,” the statement read. “He was able to get to one of his workers on the ranch who drove him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.”

After a distinguished 6-year career with the Longhorns, Shipley has remained near his hometown of Burnet.

Shipley was with the Texas program from 2004-09. He finished his career as Texas’s all-time leader in receptions (248), and he ranked second in yards (3,191) and touchdowns (33) when he left the program. He was a 2-time All-American, a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, and a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.

He won a national championship with Texas during the 2005 season and played for another against Alabama to cap the 2009 season. He was also a 2-time All-Big 12 selection. In 2010, he was drafted in the third round by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Shipley also holds multiple career receiving records by a high school player in the state of Texas, including career receptions (264), receiving yards (5,424), and receiving touchdowns (73).
