Texas running back Tre Wisner intends to enter the transfer portal.

Wisner, the Longhorns’ leading rusher in 2025, confirmed the news to On3’s Pete Nakos on Friday via his representatives. A 6-foot junior from Glenn Heights, Wisner spent his first 3 seasons with Texas and appeared in 38 of a possible 42 games.

Wisner will have 2 years to play 1 at his next school.

He’ll become a highly sought-after talent in the portal, and he’ll leave the Texas running back room in major disrepair. Wisner will join CJ Baxter and Jerrick Gibson in the portal, meaning Texas will have to replace each of its 3 leading rushers from the 2025 team. The Longhorns also lost Rickey Stewart Jr., a 4-star signee out of the 2025 class, to the portal.

But changes were expected following the dismissal of running backs coach Chad Scott. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian hired Jabbar Juluke from Florida in an effort to rebound from one of the worst rushing seasons in program history.

Wisner gained 597 yards on 131 carries in his 9 appearances this season for Texas. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry and scored 3 touchdowns.

No other Texas running back cleared 200 yards on the ground. No other Texas tailback found the endzone multiple times on the ground. And no other Texas tailback averaged more than 4.5 yards per carry.

Wisner will exit UT with 369 career rushing attempts for 1,734 yards and 9 scores. He broke out in 2024, rushing for 1,064 yards and 5 scores to help Texas reach the College Football Playoff semifinals.
