It’s never too early to recruit for the future.

While most Texas fans who follow recruiting are likely focused on how the Longhorns’ 2027 class is taking shape, Steve Sarkisian and his staff are also looking ahead. On Thursday, the Longhorns landed a big-time commitment for 2028.

Highly-touted quarterback Niemann Lawrence has verbally pledged to play for Texas.

Out of Plantation (Florida) American Heritage High School, Lawrence is currently listed as measuring 6-1 and 210 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Lawrence is rated 4-stars, the No. 5 quarterback, No. 7 player in the state of Florida and No. 53 prospect overall in the Class of 2028.

Even though the Class of 2028 has two seasons of high school football remaining, Lawrence was already being heavily recruited. He has collected 32 scholarship offers ahead of his junior season. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina and Tennessee were among the programs to show early interest.

For Thursday’s big decision, Lawrence put hats on the table for Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Miami and Notre Dame.
