Texas school district closing in on yet another expensive football stadium
Texas is one of the biggest high school football states in the country, and there’s a lot of land in the Lone Star State.
Put those together and you have an arms race in Texas for high school football stadiums. The latest to join the party is the McKinney Independent School District (ISD), which is close to getting an approval for a $220 million funding package.
That will include a new 12,000-seat stadium.
According to the Dallas Morning News, it’s a $50.3 million project. The package will also allow the school to construct an added “events center” and auditorium among other things.
The school board is scheduled to vote on the proposed project a week from today on March 17.
Recently, a $60 million, 18,000-seat stadium was built in Allen, Texas. Plus, construction began in February for a $61 million football stadium in Katy, Texas.
That, by the way, is the most expensive high school stadium built in the United States.
