Texas to give 1st-team reps to backup QB amid Arch Manning’s struggles, per report
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is making a change to UT’s practice routine, according to a report.
Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Longhorns will give increased first-team practice reps to KJ Lacey Jr. this week. The move comes amid a second straight loss for the Longhorns and continued struggles from starting quarterback Arch Manning.
Thamel notes that Manning is still expected to start for Texas in Week 8, but it seems his grip on the starting role is beginning to slip.

Texas is coming off of back-to-back losses to Oklahoma and Florida. Manning had critical turnovers in the loss to the Sooners and had multiple decision-making errors against the Gators in Week 7.
For the season, Manning owns a passer efficiency rating of 145.2, which ranks 9th among qualified SEC quarterbacks.
Lacey is a former 4-star prospect in the class of 2025. He was the No. 14 quarterback from that cycle, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Texas also has 5-star true freshman Dia Bell on its roster as a potential backup option.
Texas will host Ole Miss on Saturday in Week 8.
