Thomas Castellanos helped Florida State topple an SEC opponent on Saturday, then channeled one of the SEC’s all-time best quarterbacks.
Castellanos, in his Seminoles debut after 2 seasons at Boston College, was efficient throughout the night in a 31-17 win over Alabama. He completed 9 of his 14 passes for 152 yards and, while not throwing a touchdown, threw 0 interceptions. He showcased his running ability as well, taking 16 carries for 78 yards and a TD he scored while engineering a 75-yard opening drive to answer the Tide’s opening score.
After the game, Castellanos, never afraid to speak his mind, paid tribute to another outspoken quarterback.
“Give to them nothing but take from them EVERYTHING. Time to turn up and leave it all on the field,” he wrote on a post on Instagram.
If you’ll recall, that comes from a post on Nov. 10, 2022, made by Johnny Manziel on what was then Twitter. That date’s significant, because that’s the day Texas A&M handed Alabama its first loss of the season in a 29-24 win in Tuscaloosa. Manziel was 24-of-31 for 253 yards and a touchdown, adding 92 yards on 18 carries.
So far, so good for Castellanos in Tallahassee. We’ll see if he can put together a few Manziel-like performances for the Noles in 2025.
