Is No. 1 Alabama actually being overlooked this year?
The Crimson Tide jumped Clemson for No. 1 in the Associated Press Poll in late September following the Tigers’ close call against North Carolina. Alabama has a full-fledged dynasty in Tuscaloosa, but Tim Tebow actually thinks this year’s Alabama team is being overlooked.
“I think they’re being overlooked because of the championship game last year,” Tebow told USA TODAY Sports in an interview Thursday. “I think they’re being overlooked because of the hype that they’ve had for the last 10 years. I think they’re being overlooked because they expected so much from Tua (Tagovailoa).”
Above all, though, the SEC Network analyst thinks the Tide is being overlooked because of its ridiculous receiving corps.
“I think there are other (receiving corps) up there that have been great,” Tebow’s said. “Miami’s had a few, Southern Cal’s had a few. But I think there’s a legit shot that four of those guys could be first-round draft picks. And they’re all gamebreakers.”
With so much emphasis being put on the Tide’s offense, the improvement — or lack thereof — of Nick Saban’s defense may just have the biggest impact in the postseason. The Tide is still waiting on its young defense to take the next step.
