The Mississippi State Bulldogs will be searching for their first SEC win later today when they welcome the No. 22 Texas Longhorns to town for what’s sure to be an action-packed showdown in Starkville.
Second-year head coach Jeff Lebby will also be searching for his first conference win since taking the reins ahead of the 2024 campaign, currently holding an 0-11 overall SEC record as the head man for the Bulldogs.
Despite his lack of success on the field in conference play, though, former Florida great and current SEC Network analyst Tim Tebow had some high praise for Lebby on SEC Nation this morning, saying that he should be up for SEC Coach of the Year.
“I mean, let’s look at this Mississippi State team,” Tebow said. “They should have absolutely beaten Florida in The Swamp last week. They missed several big plays for touchdowns, and then they had the turnover at the end, and that’s without Fluff (Bothwell), and I think that Fluff is one of the best backs in the SEC, and then they gave the Tennessee game away. This is a really good Mississippi State team, and I honestly believe that Jeff Lebby deserves to be up for Coach of the Year.”
A win against the Longhorns today would certainly go a long ways towards boosting Lebby’s potential Coach of the Year resume, and it would also probably serve as a death blow to any remaining postseason hopes that Texas has.
Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. ET.
