Following a disastrous 3-9 season in Nashville, Derek Mason hit the reset on his Vanderbilt coaching staff and dismissed both offensive coordinator Gerry Gdowski and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver this offseason.

While we may not yet know who will serve as Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator for the 2020 season, there’s a chance Mason fills that role himself, it appears the Commodores are closing in on an offensive coordinator with a successful background of engineering quality college offenses.

According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, Louisiana Tech offensive coordinator Todd Fitch is “finalizing a deal” to be Mason’s next offensive coordinator in Nashville.

Fitch served as Louisiana Tech’s offensive coordinator for four seasons, including one season as both the OC and quarterbacks coach of the team. During his time at Louisiana Tech, the Bulldogs won a bowl game all four seasons. The Bulldogs also ranked in the top 3 in scoring offense in the Conference USA in three of his four seasons leading the offense.

Louisiana Tech went 10-3 this season and just beat Miami in a bowl game. Fitch previously served as OC at Boston College, East Carolina and South Florida.
