The new year typically signals fresh starts and new beginnings, and this holds particularly true for all of the coaches across the country who recently found themselves landing in new spots following one of the most hectic coaching carousels in recent memory.
Plenty of well-known names have found themselves moving up in the college football pecking order with all of the recent upheaval, while others have been knocked down a peg or 2 due to their recent failures.
Former longtime SEC defensive assistant Todd Grantham was one of the many coaches who lost their jobs in 2025, but it hasn’t taken very long for him to find his next gig with On3’s Pete Nakos reporting on Tuesday night that he has been hired as the next DC for the UAB Blazers.
A well traveled defensive assistant, Grantham spent the 2025 campaign as the defensive coordinator for Oklahoma State, but was fired just 4 games into his tenure with the Pokes. Before that, he spent over 3 decades moving between the NFL and Power 4 level as an assistant, a resume that includes stops at Georgia from 2010-2013 and Florida from 2018-2021.
Now he’ll be taking his wealth of coaching experience with him to UAB under recently promoted head coach Alex Mortensen in hopes of turning around the Blazers.
