Joey Aguilar will reportedly look for a new opportunity as UCLA adds former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava via the transfer portal.

On3 reported on Monday that Aguilar plans to enter his name into the transfer portal.

If Aguilar follows through on transferring, he will leave UCLA without playing in a regular-season game for the Bruins. He announced in December that he was transferring from App State to UCLA.

Aguilar, a native of Antioch, California, played his first 2 seasons of college football at Diablo Valley Community College, northeast of San Francisco. He then transferred to App State and won Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year.

In 2023, Aguilar rewrote the record book at App State. He owns the single-season school records for passing yards (3,757), passing touchdowns (33), attempts (460), completions (293) and 200-yard passing games (13).

Aguilar followed up his 2023 season with a solid showing in 2024. He started 11 games, throwing for 3,003 passing yards and 23 touchdowns on 390 attempts, with an average of 273.0 passing yards per game.

It was reported that Aguilar had an NIL deal for over $1 million with UCLA. It will be interesting to see what kind of NIL deal he can land elsewhere.
