UNLV is in mourning on Tuesday after the death of one of its young football players on Monday night in Las Vegas.
Ryan Keeler, a 20-year-old defensive lineman who transferred from Rutgers to UNLV ahead of the 2022 season, has passed away, per a release from the school.
Keeler appeared in 7 games for the Rebels last season, recording 8 tackles. He had a sack against Air Force on Oct. 15.
First-year UNLV head coach Barry Odom issued a statement:
“We are devastated to have lost a member of our Rebel family,” Odom said. “While I had the honor of knowing Ryan for only a couple of months, he already stood out to our coaching staff as an incredible person, student and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Ryan’s family as we grieve along with them over this tremendous loss.”
Keeler was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school in Chicago. He committed to Rutgers for the 2021 season before heading to UNLV in 2022.
