Vanderbilt pulls off miraculous win thanks to inconceivable NC State blunder

Every week in college football — if you’re patient enough — you have the opportunity to see something you’ve never seen before. Vanderbilt was the latest to profit off this chaos, clenching a miraculous 35-31 win over NC State thanks to an inconceivable late-game mistake from CJ Bailey and the Wolfpack offense.

Let’s set the stage.

The score is NC State 31, Vanderbilt 28 and there are seconds remaining in the game. Staring at 4th down pinned deep in their own territory, NC State has a few great options at their disposal: punt the football or take a safety.

Wolfpack quarterback CJ Bailey, though, picked a bad time to have a bit of a moment and did neither of those things. Bailey took the snap and decided to kill clock, hovering in the end zone and waiting for double zeroes. Vanderbilt’s Miles Capers ripped the ball out of Bailey’s grip, leading to a Commodores touchdown with 1 second remaining. 35-31.

Ballgame.

Unbelievable.

Vanderbilt is now 3-0 on the season with wins over Austin Peay, Delaware and NC State. The Commodores trailed NC State for 59 minutes and 59 seconds of Saturday’s Week 3 contest.
