Video: Cincy QB Gunner Kiel motionless following extreme shot to the head
College football fans took a collective gasp during Cincinnati’s game against Memphis on Thursday after Bearcats quarterback Gunner Kiel suffered a vicious blow to the head late in the first quarter.
Kiel was motionless for several minutes while trainers rushed to help. Facing a 3rd-and-1 near midfield, Kiel picked up the first down on a keeper and during the process of sliding to the turf, was hit in the head by a Memphis defender’s shoulder.
The play was originally ruled targeting, but was overturned.
Kiel did not return to the game and was rushed to a local hospital. ESPN later revealed the quarterback was not believed to be paralyzed and had movement in his arms and legs.
Gunner Kiel is at Methodist University Hospital. I’m told he is conscious and moving all extremities. Family is with him.
