Beau Pribula rushed for 110 yards and threw 2 touchdown passes to beat NC State in his Virginia Cavaliers debut Saturday evening. The Cavs are 1-0 on the year (but not in ACC play, as this was not considered a conference game) following their 34-8 win over the Wolfpack.

The former Mizzou quarterback was not asked to throw the ball much, but he was nearly flawless when he did. Pribula finished Saturday’s contest with 155 yards on 9-of-11 completions with 2 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

NC State had no answer for Virginia’s rushing attack on Saturday. Led by Pribula’s dual-threat capabilities in the backfield and impressive push from the Cavs’ veteran O-line, Virginia rushed for 258 yards at an average of 4.5 yards per rush.

The Cavaliers were dominant on defense, too. NC State quarterback CJ Bailey looked lost at times; Virginia forced 2 turnovers out of Bailey and held the junior QB to just 83 passing yards and 1 interception.

Pribula’s first passing touchdown as a Cav was a pretty one. He hit receiver Xavier Brown in the seam to give the Hoos a 17-0 near the start of the 2nd quarter.

NC State had a rough afternoon, but Virginia’s season opener was impressive. Pribula seems to be comfortable under Cavs HC Tony Elliot, and he’s playing to his strength of rushing the football.

The Cavs will be back in action next Saturday against Norfolk State.
