Ahead of Friday’s Apple Cup between Washington and Washington State, the bus carrying the Washington band flipped over, causing many band members to be taken to the hospital.

The band didn’t make it to the big rivalry game in Pullman, but the Washington State band made a very classy gesture.

As you can see below, the Cougars’ band played Washington’s fight song to honor their rivals:

The Washington State band director said it was important for the Cougars to put the rivalry aside and show solidarity with the Huskies (via the Seattle Times):

โ€œThe Huskies are missing their band, and thatโ€™s an important part of the gameday experience,โ€ said Washington State band director Troy Bennefield. โ€œWe want to honor the camaraderie and their dedication and show our sportsmanship.โ€

โ€œYesterday, when we heard there was an accident and there was a possibility they might not come, it was, โ€˜what can we do? How can we show our support?โ€ Bennefield said. โ€œIt was letโ€™s play the (fight song). Since they are not here, we thought it would be the easiest and most impactful way to show our solidarity with them.โ€

Good for the Cougars for doing something that was clearly appreciated by Washington.
