The SEC is set for a monster opening weekend of football for the 2025 season, with 3 ranked teams going on the road into hostile environments to take on high-profile opponents.

These would be the Alabama Crimson Tide, the LSU Tigers, and the Texas Longhorns, each of which will start their respective seasons on the road against the Florida State Seminoles, the Clemson Tigers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes, respectively.

One of the biggest storylines when it comes to these high-profile out-of-conference matchups is who ends up officiating the games, and more importantly, which conference each crew represents.

The SEC released officiating assignments for every team on Thursday.

The matchup between No. 9 LSU and No. 4 Clemson will be officiated by an SEC crew, which makes sense given that the game is being played at Clemson, which is one of the most hostile environments in the country.

An SEC crew will likewise handle the top-3 matchup between the Longhorns and Buckeyes. The Tide, though, were not as fortunate as their 2 in-conference counterparts, as they will be taking on FSU with an ACC crew in charge of calling the game.

Alabama definitely got the short end of the stick in this regard, but it’s just part of the sport. If they can play up to the standard they usually do, then it shouldn’t matter in the slightest which crew is calling the game. Per the latest college football odds, Alabama is favored by a wide margin in its opener. The Crimson Tide are a 14-point favorite at BetMGM. LSU and Texas are both underdogs.
