Week 7 was one for the books.

Five of the top 7 teams in the country fell, leaving No. 3 Miami and No. 4 Ohio State the big winners of the weekend. No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Notre Dame weren’t as lucky — the Bulldogs dropped a shocker to unranked Auburn while the Fighting Irish just barely missed the mark in a controversial ending in Provo.

According to Stewart Mandel, it’s the first time both No. 1 and No. 2 have fallen on the same day since Nov. 17, 2012 — 14 years ago.

As Mandel pointed out above, both Georgia and Notre Dame are in good shape to make the College Football Playoff — but the rest of the way is going to be significantly more stressful for either squad.

Notre Dame, of course, still has to play Miami this season. The Fighting Irish and Hurricanes are slated to face off in Week 10 in South Bend, Notre Dame’s 2nd of 3 legitimate matchups they’ll play this season. In addition to Miami, Notre Dame is also set to face No. 24 SMU in Week 12.

Georgia’s path to the Playoff looked simple last week, but college football has a way of humbling even the best teams in the sport. The Bulldogs can only afford one more loss against a schedule that includes Florida (which just beat Texas), Ole Miss (which just spanked Mizzou) and Mizzou (at Sanford Stadium).

It’s going to be tough for this season to outdo Week 7. Let’s see what you’ve got, college football.
