Arkansas hasn’t exactly had the best start to the 2018 season.
The Razorbacks have lost back-to-back games against Colorado State and North Texas, and fans could be heard booing QB Cole Kelley during Saturday’s home loss to the Mean Green.
Arkansas starts conference play this week with a tough matchup against No. 9 Auburn, check out what Chad Morris said during Wednesday’s Coaches Teleconference:
On the biggest challenge he faces:
- Just being able to overcome success and adversity as it comes in games, we’ve experienced that in the last couple of weeks. The game isn’t over until the clock reads double zero, you have to keep playing and that’s something we struggle with so far.
On people saying you have better talent and should have won the last few games:
- I haven’t said that… everyone is going to have their opinions, my focus is on this team. We have to dig in the bunker and just get better every day.
On simplifying things this week:
- It’s gone well. The guys came out and had a good practice, I wouldn’t expect anything less. It’s gone well to this point.
On Dre Greenlaw:
- He was actually working out yesterday, he looked good. We anticipate him being able to go.
On open field tackling:
- It’s an area we addressed, continue to address. We didn’t do it well last week so it goes back to the basics where we focus on tackling.
On Todd Grantham hiring him at Tulsa:
- It went back to Gus Malzahn. I knew Todd from his days coaching in Texas… When Gus worked with him then left, Todd reached out to me and I actually told him no three times and it wasn’t until he flew down and convinced us to visit after winning a state title. I promised him that I would, he recruited Paula really well and I couldn’t say no by the time the trip was done.
Why did you say no at first?
- I thought we had the best high school job in the nation. We were undefeated for two years in a row, coming off back-to-back state titles and he just convinced us that we had a great thing going but he convinced us we can do more, have more of an impact at the college ranks… I would not be where I am today with Todd Grantham and I’m grateful for that.
