What Ed Orgeron said following LSU’s first fall scrimmage

LSU held its first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday. In addition to the news that QB Joe Burrow was held out due to a minor injury, Tigers coach Ed Orgeron touched on a variety of topics including which players stood out.
Here are the highlights of what Coach O had to say:
- “Tremendous scrimmage” for both sides of the ball and special teams.
- QB Myles Brennan was 8-of-13 passing. Never want starting QB to get hurt, but Orgeron thought it provided a “good situation” to build depth at the position.
- Brennan “still has a ways to go,” but is much improved from last season.
- Other notable non-participants in scrimmage were Kristian Fulton, Grant Delpit and K’Lavon Chaisson. Orgeron did not offer many details, but said some could be back soon, others later.
- Freshman DB Derek Stingley had two INTs.
- “I’m glad the defense came along because the offense was moving the ball on them all week.”
- Jacob Phillips, Damone Clark and Patrick Queen were all “excellent” at linebacker.
- On Clark: Heโs an elite athlete. Heโs 6-3, 238 (pounds) and can run. Heโs always first in team sprints. In the weight room, he lifts everything in front of him. Smart, great kid, great student.
- Todd Harris and JaCoby Stevens are playing well. Cordale Flott and Jay Ward playing well at cornerback.
- Orgeron on York: Heโs taller. He has a bigger range. Heโs kicked a 59 yarder in an all-star game. Cole has that magic about him. I think Cade does too. But he has to prove it in front of a crowd.
- WR Ja’Marr Chase had three catches for 101 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown.
