South Carolina is coming off a good road victory against Vanderbilt in Week 4, but the Gamecocks will now face off against one of the hottest teams in the SEC East, the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats.
Kentucky is coming off of an upset victory over Mississippi State last Saturday, and will get their second-straight home game for their matchup with the Gamecocks.
Will Muschamp hopped on the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday to preview his matchup with Kentucky, here’s what he said:
Do you have anyone that works percentages on your staff?
- Well, thatโs something we work all the time, as a staffโฆ You canโt prepare for every situation but that is a discussion we have a lot of discussions on our halfโฆ Those situations are critical, obviously.
What is your reaction on older players leaving following the redshirt rule:
- I understand the new rules, if someone wants to leave, we understand we want guys that want to be here and if they donโt we wish them the best.
Did you see this coming, older players leaving after a few games?
- I donโt know if this was something coaches discussedโฆ Itโs just the rule and you have to prepare for it.
On having a special teams coordinator, what value do they bring?
- Well, our SPT teams coordinator coaches linebackers too, so he doesnโt just coach SPT. I think itโs good to hear from one voice, no different than offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator.
As players leave around the country, do you guys keep a tally of those players?
- Yeah, you are always looking to better your team. If thereโs an opportunity and thereโs a player out there that reaches out to us we explore it but thatโs way down the road.
On the OL at Kentucky and how thatโs opened up things for Benny Snell:
- They do a good job getting a hat on a hatโฆ that really opens things upโฆ itโs not complicated but the really good teams Iโve faced, itโs not complicated, they just do a good jobโฆ they are playing about eight guys (up front) and they rotate those guys in and outโฆ Theyโve gotten movement on everyone theyโve played.
