Where will D’Eriq King land? Odds released for Houston QB’s potential transfer destination

LSU opened tied for just the fourth-best odds to win next year’s FBS national championship. But while the Tigers won’t open as the favorite to win a second straight title, they are the leading candidates to land graduate transfer quarterback D’Eriq King according to SportsLine.

LSU’s SEC West rival Arkansas has the second-best odds followed by Miami and then Oregon of landing King.

With the Houston Cougars in 2019, King threw for 2,982 yards and 36 touchdowns while averaging 36 touchdowns with six interceptions. He also rushed for 674 yards and 14 scores.

LSU is an obvious fit because the Tigers will need to replace Heisman-Trophy winning quarterback Joe Burrow, who is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Burrow recorded one of the best seasons a quarterback has ever had in college football, setting a new record with 60 touchdown passes, but with the offensive staff and many playmakers remaining in Baton Rouge, there’s plenty of reasons to believe the next LSU quarterback can experience a lot of success as well.

A graduate transfer may very well give LSU better odds at repeating as national champions.

Arkansas experienced a very different season at quarterback than LSU, splitting the snaps between senior Ben Hicks and junior Nick Starkel. The Razorbacks fired coach Chad Morris late in the season, and new first-time head coach Sam Pittman should want to have much more stability behind center.
