Will Muschamp updates Jake Bentley’s status after suffering knee injury against Kentucky

If the 24-10 loss to Kentucky wasn’t bad enough for South Carolina fans Saturday night, their head also hit the pillow knowing quarterback Jake Bentley left the game with some kind of knee injury.
Head coach Will Muschamp put their minds at ease Sunday, telling reporters during his latest weekend teleconference — according to The State, that the injury is “nothing serious.”
“He missed some things from the read standpoint,” Muschamp said. “There are some reads we need to be able to hit, but we have to help him down the field, too. We had some opportunities we didn’t take advantage of.”
Senior Michael Scarnecchia replaced Bentley when he left the game in the fourth quarter when the Wildcats already had the game in hand.
Although he may have been hurting, those on social media only added insult after Bentley’s performance. He threw for just 148 yards and threw three interceptions while completing 13 of 28 passes.
After the game, he tried to reason with reporters why the Gamecocks fell short.
“They are really long and athletic, they play a lot of zone coverage, so it is hard to get behind them – they mix it up pretty well,” Bentley said. “We must execute better. I need to do better and take care of the ball. I obviously can’t throw three interceptions and think we’re going to have a chance at winning. Just have to do better.”
If there is any solace for Bentley in his performance, it’s that he won’t have to stray from home any time soon. The Gamecocks have three straight home games against Mizzou, Texas A&M and Tennessee before going back out on the road in early November.
