Zach Arnett has been impressed with Auburn heading into Mississippi State’s Week 9 matchup with the Tigers.
Though Auburn has had mixed results this season, Arnett sees the effort they put in and believes the offense will give the Bulldogs problems come Saturday.
“They do a lot of things really well,” Arnett said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “Their ability to get in 10 personnel formations and empty, and then the very next play, they don’t even have to change personnel, they can be in 14 personnel set with all 4 tight ends in there and play smashmouth physical football.”
Auburn has used the dual-quarterback system this season, and Arnett knows his team will have to be prepared to face 2 different packages against the Tigers.
“You’ve got quarterbacks, both are incredibly athletic, both are very dangerous runners,” Arnett said. “So no matter who’s in the game, you’ve got to be prepared for that. You see some plays more for one than the other, but they are physical, they are athletic and they can stress you in a lot of ways no matter who’s in there operating the offense.”
Physicality has been the point of emphasis for Arnett heading into the game. He knows his team will have to play gritty in order to get a big win.
“Most importantly for us, we’ve got to show up ready to match the physicality and intensity with with they play with, and that’s in all phases,” Arnett said. “That’s on both sides of the ball. Again, I’m really impressed with the way they play, just from an intensity and effort level, week in and week out.”
Auburn is currently on a 4-game losing streak, but is looking to turn that around and try to get bowl eligible. The Bulldogs are coming off an ugly 7-3 win over Arkansas last week and are looking to make a win over the Tigers their 3rd-straight as they prepare for the backstretch of the season.
