Zavion Thomas breaks defender’s ankles, turns on the jets for 97-yard TD

Former LSU Tigers wide receiver Zavion Thomas is having himself a day for the Chicago Bears.
Thomas put Chicago on the board almost immediately. He took his defender’s ankles with a double move, then turned on the jets for a 97-yard touchdown just 2 minutes into the game.

The game is now nearing halftime, but Thomas has already made an impact even outside of that big play to set the tone. He’s Chicago’s leading receiver by a wide margin with 3 receptions for 116 yards and the above touchdown.
Thomas has also been elite in the return game on Saturday. He returned a kickoff 39 yards and worked his way for an excellent return on a punt near the end of the first half. Check it out:
Thomas was selected by the Bears in the 3rd round of the 2026 NFL Draft, which was viewed by some as an overdraft. The former LSU receiver didn’t have elite college stats — he collected 41 receptions for 488 yards and 3 touchdowns his senior year, for example — but he’s making a pretty excellent first impression in preseason.
Thomas will compete for the Bears’WR4 role when Chicago’s season kicks off on Sept. 13 against the Panthers.
