Alabama controlled Nebraska from start to finish Saturday, clinching a spot in the Women’s College World Series semifinals with a 5-1 win.
Jocelyn Briski was effectively untouchable on Saturday. The Crimson Tide ace gave up just one hit all afternoon: A solo home run in the top of the 4th. Remember, this is a Nebraska offense regarded as one of the best in the country heading into this matchup. Briski pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit as aforementioned with 6 strikeouts and zero walks.
Nebraska, after going three up, three down in the first inning, immediately put 2 Crimson Tide batters on base with a walk and hit by pitch. Marlie Giles made the Huskers pay the following at-bat with a 3-run shot to center field.
Giles drove in another run in the 3rd inning, a sacrifice fly that scored Kinley Pate. The following inning, Jenna Young hit a single to left field, scoring Kristen White.
The Crimson Tide join Tennessee in clinching a WCWS semifinals spot and now await the winner of Texas Tech vs. UCLA, which is set to take place Sunday afternoon. Alabama plays next on Monday, June 1.
