Texas has gone back-to-back! The Longhorns repeated as national champions on Thursday night, defeating Texas Tech 4-1 to win the Women’s College World Series. The Longhorns won the WCWS Finals with a 2-game sweep.
Mike White turned to Citlaly Gutierrez as his starter for Game 2. Gutierrez went 4.1 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1.
Wells also logged time on the mound, but in the bottom of the 6th inning, it was time for Teagan Kavan. Kavan was sensational on Thursday night, striking out 5 of her 6 batters faced over 2 shutout, no-hit innings in relief to secure the decisive victory.

Texas Tech held a 1-0 lead into the 5th inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Viviana Martinez grounded to short. Ashton Maloney came home on the play as Hailey Toney threw to 3rd base.
Toney’s throwing error allowed Jaycie Nichols to keep going, and also score on the play. The costly error gave Texas a 2-1 lead.

Even with Teagan Kavan, it’s always good to add insurance runs. The Longhorns made it a 4-1 game in the top of the 7th inning with a Kayden Henry solo homer and a Leighann Goode RBI single.
The Longhorns went 53-12 in 2026. They had to fight their way out of the loser’s bracket in Oklahoma City, dropping their first WCWS game against Tennessee. Texas recovered to beat Mississippi State and Nebraska to reach the semifinals, where it had to beat Tennessee twice on Monday to reach the WCWS Finals.
