Move over, well, everybody… Kendall Wells is Oklahoma’s new home run queen.

The freshman slugging sensation went deep against Georgia in the bottom of the second inning, cranking the first pitch she saw to dead center field for her 35h homer of the season – the most by any Sooners softball player in program history.

Wells, who broke the Oklahoma record formerly held by Jocelyn Alo, is now also just two homers behind the NCAA single-season record of 37 set by Arizona’s Lauren Espinoza in 1995. The Sooners have five regular season games remaining. Alo holds the NCAA career record with 122 homers.

Wells’ solo homer against Georgia also set a new NCAA single-season team record – as it marked the Oklahoma’s 162nd deep fly of the season. Oklahoma had set the record in 2021 in 60 games and Miami (Ohio) got close by hammering 160 home runs in 2024. Every Oklahoma player who has registered an official at-bat this season has blasted at least three home runs.

Top-ranked Oklahoma (43-6 overall, 15-3 SEC) took a 1-0 lead over No. 11 Georgia via Wells’ homer off Bulldogs starter Addisen Fisher. Gabbie Garcia later added a two-run blast in the third to help the Sooners to a 4-1 advantage.
