Texas A&M blasts past Texas, advances to SEC Tournament final with run-rule victory

The SEC Softball Tournament delivered plenty of drama in the first game on Friday. The second game produced less drama but contained plenty of action with in-state rivals Texas and Texas A&M facing off for a shot to advance to the finals.
Immediately off the bat, things tilted in favor of the Aggies. Texas started the game by getting the leadoff runner on base, but things were quickly wiped away with a line drive double play.
At the plate, it was about A&M’s power hitters all game long. KK Dement punctuated a 6-run first inning for the Aggies with a 3-run blast to dead center field.
The 2nd inning produced more of the same. Dement once again homered, this time a 2-run shot, as the Aggies racked up 5 more runs to stake themselves to an 11-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Amari Harper tacked on the final 3 runs for A&M with another home run. At that point, a run-rule victory was all but locked up with Emily Kennedy scattering just 2 earned runs across 5 innings.
It goes down as a 2nd straight run-rule victory for A&M at the SEC Tournament after a 12-4 win over South Carolina. The Aggies have now outscored their competition 26-6 this weekend.
Now, Texas A&M and Oklahoma will face off in a heavyweight national championship showdown on Saturday night. The two teams did not face off in the regular season, and it will be a great matchup after the Sooners erased a 5-run deficit in their semifinal win over Arkansas.
