Logan Gilbert was part of a rarely-seen baseball play. The Seattle Mariners pitcher gave up a single on a ball that found a home that wasn’t the ground, a glove or the seats.
Gilbert was facing the A’s Carlos Cortes in the top of the 1st inning. A 108-mph liner proved to be a true comebacker, as it went inside Gilbert’s jersey on a wild, rarely-seen play.

Fans were confused as to what the call would be in a unique situation. As noted by Yahoo Sports, the play was a single for the batter. The ball in the jersey did not count as a catch, per MLB rules. It has to be caught in the hand or glove to be recorded as an out. It was officially ruled a single for the batter, Cortes.
It was actually a rough 1st inning for Gilbert. The play resulted in the A’s loading the bases, and they scored 2 runs to take a 2-0 lead. For MLB fans, there was more drama in the game. It was 4-4 in the 9th inning, but Seattle walked it off for the 5-4 victory.
