Former Georgia standout and current Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards reportedly will miss significant time in the NBA Playoffs after sustaining an injury during the first half of Saturday night’s series against the Denver Nuggets.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Sunday morning that Edwards has been diagnosed with a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee and is expected to miss multiple weeks. The Timberwolves lead their first-round series against the Nuggets 3-1 after Saturday’s 112-96 victory, with Game 4 set for Monday (10:30 pm ET, NBC/Peacock).
Edwards was helped to the locker room late in the first half after appearing to hyperextend his left knee. The Timberwolves ruled out Edwards for the rest of the game shortly after halftime and underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. That test returned good news in that Edwards did not sustain any ligament damage that would have kept him out for a more extended period.
Edwards came down awkwardly on a late second-quarter block attempt — his left knee bending backward, sending the four-time All-Star sprawling to the floor in pain and eventually to the locker room for evaluation. Minnesota also lost starting guard Donte DiVincenzo to a torn Achilles just 79 seconds into the game.
Here’s a look at the updated odds to win the NBA title this season, per Kalshi:
