Former Tennessee star Dalton Knecht was cut by the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday as teams had to set their rosters for the start of the NBA season.

It didn’t take long for Dalton Knecht to get signed by a team, as the New York Knicks announced they were signing him to a two-way contract. On this contract, he will have the ability to play in both the NBA and the G-League.

The Lakers drafted him with the No. 17 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft with the hopes of him becoming a big-time part of their future. He had a solid rookie season, finishing the year by averaging 9.1 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Midway through the season, though, the Lakers sent him to Charlotte in a trade to get Mark Williams. However, the trade was rescinded after Williams failed his physical, and Knecht went back to Los Angeles.

It was during the 2023-24 season at Tennessee that Knecht became a household name. He helped lead the Volunteers to the Elite Eight while emerging as one of the elite scorers in college basketball. He was one of the elite players in the country that season, averaging 21.7 points and 4.9 rebounds, while shooting 40% from the 3-point line.
