ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was seen playing solitaire on his phone in the middle of Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night.
Multiple fans at Gainbridge Arena captured photos Smith playing the game while the Oklahoma City Thunder looked to even the series against the Indiana Pacers. Here’s a look at one photo that surfaced on social media during the game:
It’s an embarrassing look for Smith, who is the lead on ESPN’s basketball coverage during the NBA Finals — not to mention his role as an analyst on numerous other ESPN programs. Smith responded to the photo on social media and said he was “multi-tasking” during timeouts:
However, another fan captured video of Smith playing solitaire during live game action:
It will be interesting to see if Smith addresses this incident while he’s on the air at any point before Game 5.
The series now shifts back to Oklahoma City on Monday evening for a pivotal game between the Thunder and Pacers. OKC pulled off a comeback win over the Pacers in Game 4 despite hitting just 3 3-pointers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 35 points in the win, including 15 of the final 16 for OKC in crunch time.
Tip-off of Game 5 is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Monday night.
