Charlie Weis Jr. is still coaching with Ole Miss through the end of its College Football Playoff run, which is still ongoing as the Rebels have advanced to a semifinal matchup with Miami.

Whenever Ole Miss’s Playoff run ends, Weis is set to join Lane Kiffin‘s new staff at LSU in 2026, so he would be staying in the SEC. However, there are rumblings about Weis, who’s been at Ole Miss since 2022, being a prime target of some NFL teams this offseason.

According to a report by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Sunday afternoon, Weis is “of interest to NFL teams as an NFL OC possibility heading into this job cycle.” Weis’ Rebels offense has put on quite a show this season, ranking No. 1 in the country among Power 4 programs in total offense in 2025. And, of course, that performance still has room to get better in the early days of 2026, with Ole Miss still alive and well in the Playoff.

But, according to Zenitz’s report, Weis could ultimately end up in the NFL instead of in Baton Rouge come this fall.

There is more to this Weis-NFL angle though. According to a separate report on Sunday morning by Jordan Raanan, who covers the New York Giants for ESPN, Weis could be of particular interest to the Giants, whose starting quarterback just happens to be former Rebels star Jaxson Dart.

Weis and Dart were together in Oxford for 3 seasons from 2022-24, so they could be reunited in the NFL in New York in 2026, with the Giants overhauling their coaching staff.

For now, Weis is still with Ole Miss, coaching in the Playoff with national championship dreams. But his immediate future after this Playoff run ends appears to have intriguing options beyond his expected arrival at LSU for the 2026 season.
