Jayden Daniels will not play in Week 3, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Friday afternoon.
Daniels has been questionable all week due to a knee injury. Quinn said the former LSU star was “limited” in practice on Friday and the franchise is taking a cautious approach by sitting him in Week 3.
“We’re going to be smart, not just fast,” Quinn told reporters Friday, per David Aldridge. “The fact he was able to throw all days and get running in there, he’s just not there yet.”
It sounds as if this injury won’t be a long-term problem for Daniels and he could be poised to make his return as early as Week 4. However, Washington will have to turn to Marcus Mariota for this weekend’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Daniels is off to a solid start to his second NFL season. He’s thrown for 433 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions while leading the Commanders to a 1-1 record. He’s also rushed for 85 yards in 2 games.
With Daniels out, another former Heisman Trophy winner in Mariota will take his place. Last year, Mariota played in 3 games in relief of Daniels. He was efficient, completing 33-of-44 passes for 364 yards, 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
