Former Heisman-winning LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels made waves when he burst onto the scene during his rookie season in 2025, guiding the Washington Commanders all the way to the NFC Championship game while also picking up Rookie of the Year honors.
Daniels entered his second season as a pro with even higher expectations, following his elite rookie campaign, but he has unfortunately run into some early bad injury luck, missing the Commanders’ Week 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders as a result.
Washington was hoping that they would only have to go without the former LSU star for a single game, but the lingering knee injury he has been dealing with is taking a bit longer to heal than anticipated. This means that Daniels will be forced to miss his second straight start in Week 4, this time missing action against the Atlanta Falcons.
The team announced the news via their official X account on Thursday afternoon, stating that veteran backup and fellow former Heisman winner Marcus Mariota, who played with the Oregon Ducks, will start in his place once again.
Hopefully, Daniels will be back to full strength by Week 5, and the NFL will once again have one of its most prominent rising stars back under center and lighting up the scoreboard.
