Deebo Samuel is a San Francisco 49er again. The club announced the signing of Samuel to a 1-year deal on Saturday morning.
Samuel returns to San Francisco after 1 season away with the Washington Commanders. The 49ers have a spot open in the wide receiver room with former Florida standout Ricky Pearsall set to undergo season-ending surgery to address a nagging PCL issue.

San Francisco selected Samuel out of South Carolina with the No. 36 overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Samuel spent his first 6 professional seasons with the 49ers.
Washington acquired Samuel via trade in March 2025. As a Commander, Samuel logged 72 catches for 727 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns, and 17 carries for 75 yards and 1 rushing TD.
The receiving numbers were an improvement for Samuel, who posted 51 receptions for 670 yards and 3 TDs in 2024 with the 49ers. His rushing numbers, however, did not match his 2024 production of 42 carries for 136 yards.
Samuel’s best pro season came in 2021 when he posted 77 catches for 1,405 yards and 6 TDs, adding 59 carries for 365 yards and 8 scores on the ground. All but the receiving touchdowns were career highs.
In his pro career, Samuel has 406 catches for 5,519 yards and 83 receiving touchdowns, along with 219 carries for 1,218 yards and 21 rushing scores over 97 games (85 starts).
