Former Alabama standout Derrick Henry is cashing in on a resurgent 2024 NFL season.
In his first season with the Baltimore Ravens, Henry finished 2nd in the entire NFL in rushing yards and tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns. Only Saquon Barkley with the Philadelphia Eagles rushed for more yards last season.
Now, the Ravens are reportedly rewarding Henry with a 2 year extension worth up to $30 million. The deal includes $25 million and sets an NFL record as the richest contract ever for a running back over 30 years old. Henry turned 31 in January and has maintained his speed and physical nature to this point in his career.
While playing for Nick Saban at Alabama, Henry rewrote the Crimson Tide record books with 3,591 rushing yards and is the only 1,000-yard rusher in Alabama history with a 2,000-yard season. He also tied the program record with 42 rushing touchdowns at the time of his departure, though the records for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns would be reset 5 years later by Najee Harris.
Henry would become a Heisman Trophy winner in the 2015 season while leading the FBS in carries, rushing yards (2,219) and rushing touchdowns (28). He would lead Alabama to a national title that season.
The Crimson Tide product would spend the first 8 seasons of his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans, rushing for over 9,500 yards and setting a franchise record with 90 rushing touchdowns. He would leave for the team after his yards per carry dwindled to 4.2 yards in 2023, but the Ravens unlocked his full potential in 2024.
Now, he’s reportedly locked into a new deal with the Ravens.
