Former Missouri standout Luther Burden III was carted off the field after the final play of Chicago’s 42-38 loss to San Francisco on Sunday night, though his injury is not believed to be serious.

Burden was in the end zone as a target for quarterback Caleb Williams on a second-and-goal play from the 49ers 2-yard line and went down with a quad injury as Williams’ pass attempt to win the game fell short. He initially tried to leave the Levi’s Stadium playing surface under his own power but was unable to and instead left on the injury cart.

ESPN reported Monday morning that Burden’s injury is not thought to be serious, and that he is set to undergo additional testing Monday to determine the severity.

Burden finished the thrilling game with eight receptions on nine targets for 138 yards and a touchdown – a career-best performance for the rookie. Burden’s first 100-yard receiving game came in Week 3 against the Cowboys, when he hauled in 3 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Burden has become a reliable option for Williams and the Bears with Rome Odunze out due to injury. After being selected by Chicago in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the 39th overall pick, Burden has 44 catches for 617 yards and two touchdowns for the 11-5 and playoff-bound Bears.
