The shocking and dramatic firing of head coach Sherrone Moore has launched Michigan into a frantic and unexpected coaching search as the calendar year comes to an end.

The Wolverines’ top brass are deep in the midst of a hunt for the program’s next head man, one that can ideally lead the storied Block M out of a dark period.

With Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham having recently signed an extension, Kalen DeBoer still being on a playoff run with Alabama and Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz having just hired Michigan’s offensive coordinator away from the club, the Wolverines may now be broadening their search.

According to recent reports from FootballScoop.com, a pair of NFL offensive coordinators are in consideration for the job. Cleveland’s Tommy Rees and Green Bay’s Adam Stenavich are rumored to be in the mix, although neither is considered a top choice as of now.

Rees would be an especially interesting hire for Michigan given he used to suit up for an arch rival and he already has plenty of high-level experience at the FBS level. The former Notre Dame quarterback served as the Fighting Irish’s quarterbacks coach from 2017-2019 before taking over as offensive coordinator from 2020-2022.

Rees then served as Alabama‘s offensive coordinator in 2023, Nick Saban‘s final season with the Crimson Tide, before acting as the Browns’ pass-game coordinator in 2024 and OC during the current campaign.
