Former Alabama WR John Metchie is joining a new team ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

According to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN, the Houston Texans are sending Metchie and a Day 3 pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Harrison Bryant and a Day 3 pick.

Metchie played at Alabama from 2019-21. He was part of the 2020 squad that won the College Football Playoff National Championship and was named second-team All-SEC in 2021.

In the 2022 NFL Draft, Houston selected Metchie in the 2nd round with the No. 44 pick. The Eagles will be Metchie’s second professional team.

Metchie did not play during the 2022 season after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. A year later, he was able to return to training camp and eventually made his NFL debut in 2023.

Over the past 2 seasons, Metchie has played in 29 games for the Texans. He’s coming off a 2024 season in which he logged 24 catches for 257 yards and the first touchdown of his career.

We’ll see what’s ahead for Metchie with the defending Super Bowl champions.
